BEGINNING OF THE MONTH
Text to Lucy:
I'm on my way back. Don't go outside.
Text to Cam:
Hey you. It's a mess outside so maybe stay in? It's storming and there's... things. Monster type things.
A WEEK INTO THE MONTH
Text to Hawke:
Okay, I really need to know if you're okay. I just saw some stuff and there's a heart and... just let me know you're okay. Okay? Okay.
ooc: please assume she sent a text to Hawke on the first day with Lucy and Cam. I just figured it would be easier to play things out this way. She can get the text when she gets back from being dead. (poor Hawke) Jill saw : this & this.
Also, anyone is free to swoop in and save Jill on day one, or not. She'll run and hide and get home fine. Just wanted to give the heroes something to play with.
The thunder cracks high above and Jill is hurrying down the street to board up the windows of the Houndstooth again. She's been in Itinere long enough to know that something isn't right. This place seems to go through cycles of peace and perfection and experiments that range from ridiculous to horrific. With Lucy safe at their apartment, Jill is going to take care of the Houndstooth.
When she sees the first monster she becomes the most cliche monster movie chickadee in the world and screams and runs in the other direction. She slips into an alleyway between to buildings and waits it out for a bit before continuing on to the Houndstooth with her heart beating a mile a minute.
She'll be at The Houndstooth boarding up windows for the better part of the day before heading back to her apartment and Lucy. She has to run and hide a few times from several winged beasts on her way.

A WEEK INTO THE MONTH
The City has been flooded with these violent creatures for a week now and it doesn't look like there's an end in sight. Jill and Lucy have been holed up in the apartment building for that week so at least they're safe enough. She's sent texts to her friends, making sure they're safe and even broadcasted that the Houndstooth is closed for the foreseeable future and please everyone be safe.
There's one day though, a day when she steps out onto the balcony of their shared apartment that Jill finds a heart, a fresh, still beating heart. "What in the world?" She whispers to herself as she leans in closer to look at it.
Flashes of memories hit her, Hawke and Isabella. She can see them, the love affair between them, the push and pull, and she smiles for a moment because she's getting this glimpse into her friend's life, a part of her life that Hawke has spoken about frequently.
As the visions end though, when Jill is left with just the live heart, the implications make her stomach roil. She grabs her phone and sends out a text.
Text to Hawke:

[ Well, after that first day she's been staying inside - mostly. She's not opposed to Hawke coming over. Jill just doesn't want her to get dead again. ]
Okay but if you're not here in under 20 minutes and I don't hear from you, I'm, well, I don't know what I'll do. Just no dying. Again.

[ on the plus side, hawke is more likely not to play the big damn hero now. she won't get deaded again. hopefully. ]
Start badgering me on these things. Throw all of the insults you can think of at me. That usually gets my attention.
[ ha ha really funny, hawke. ]

[ Jill is so not kidding about the timing thing. If Hawke is over 20 minutes, she'll start freaking out and looking for more hearts. If Hawke is under 20 minutes, all the better.
Regardless, when she hears the knock on the door Cailan is quick to make all the racket with it and Jill is there quickly to open it. She gets an armful of Jill hugging her, relieved that her friend is alive, and Cailan is trying to get all the attention too, overjoyed at having her person back... in spite of the good food at Lucy and Jill's place. ]
You know, people like you aren't supposed to die. You're supposed to kick ass 24/7.

If I apologize and promise to bring you something good to eat after this is all over, will you forgive me or am I just pressing my luck?
[ it's said as a gentle joke, with much less bite and humor to it than she would normally have. ]

[ Jill steps back to let Hawke inside. Cailan follows because yes, the dog did miss her person. Lucy's and Jill's apartment is very eclectic and brightly colored. There's a large white couch with a ton of throw pillows on it that Cailan jumps up on and Jill sits on too.
She reaches out to pet at the dog's ears. ] I promise Cailan was well fed and cared for. I just couldn't leave her there by herself when I couldn't find you. And if she smells like Juniper Breeze, it's because we bathed her with our bath soap. Sorrynotsorry.

You're letting him on the furniture? You really are spoiling him. [ not that she sounds like she minds at all, but it's funny to her. ] Don't get any ideas about the bed when we get home. [ except he will and she won't kick him off because the bed is cold without another warm body. she misses isabela.
cailan leans into the scratching and barks to show his agreement with jill's words. definitely well cared for. hawke slides onto the couch on the other side of cailan and he shifts to accommodate, settling so they both can pet his ears. ]
Fed and bathed? I should leave him here more often. Now all we need is something to keep you from getting bored and we'll be all set. It's too nasty out there to play fetch the stick.
[ though she did bring a few small toys with her. she'll get them out later. ]

We were never animal people but we've decided to give it ago... with birds. They're fun. They sing to us and fly around and sit on the curtain rods and lamps and stuff.
[ Jill looks from Cailan to Hawke. ] So what was it like? I mean, the being... gone part. [ She's never died here, if only because Jill knows her limits and usually stays indoors when things go crazy. She's genuinely curious about what it was like. ]

[ hawke, no.
cailan leans into the attention he's still getting, though he whines at the "being gone" part, as though he can understand. hawke never underestimates his intelligence. mabari have a reputation for it. she rubs his head vigorously to reassure him as she figures out a response. ]
I don't know that it was like anything. I remember dying. And then I remember waking up in bed at the estate. It was like I'd been asleep for a few days. I can't remember those days, but I know I lost them.
