I feel like I should take advantage of all this snow. What's everyone's favorite winter activity?
[A C T I O N]
Sophie has discovered that she loves Itinere. She loves the people and the opportunities that this place gives her and Cam. She loves the freedom this place has and maybe she ought to want to go home, maybe she ought to want to finish art school (a part of her does). Maybe she ought to want a lot of things, but right now, she likes this place.
Winter is probably Sophie's favorite season. She loves the clothes and the snow, the way her breath freezes in the air; she loves to be able to run inside, tingley and red from the cold to warm up by a fire. She loves the fuzzy socks and the way that people tend to stay inside and cuddle in the winter.
With all of that in mind, Sophie stops by the coffee shop first and gets a PSL (shut up, she can still love them and tease Cam about loving them). With steaming coffee in hand, she walks along the main street of the town, stopping in various shops. After popping into several shops, she ends up with several shopping bags which have to be dropped off at her apartment then it's back to street to wander in the snow. She's going to make snow angels in the park, take a sleigh ride and possibly build a snowman. She'd love to have company.

I'm gonna go with the surprise attack and say my favorite winter activity is trying to melt the snow. Cause it seems to be magic snow and it reappears within a minute of melting! How cool is that! I'm gonna defeat it though cause I've got a secret weapon in the works.

Okay. I'll bite. What's the secret weapon?
[ Leo makes Sophie laugh. She's never exactly sure whether he's giving her a hard time or exaggerating or telling the truth. ]

[ Leo likes Sophie because she's pretty and sweet and she seems to take his moods with a grain of salt. Anyone who can deal with him without the eyerolling is A-OK in his book. And this time he's being completely serious. ]
Even better than 'have you ever' do you wanna?

You have a dragon?
[ She really has to process that a moment, Leo. She's a muggle. Dragons aren't things in the muggle world, not even mechanical dragons. She likes Leo too; he's earnest and sweet, good looking and fun. Also, he surprises her and she likes that feeling even if it is difficult to process sometimes. ]
Clearly the answer here is yes. Just don't let him eat me? I'm at the art store. I can meet you somewhere in ten. I just have to check out.

[ When Sophie is done checking out and steps outside, up in the sky is a massive golden metal dragon with none other than Leo Valdez at the helm! He waves to her. ]
Hey Sophie! See? Nothing to be scared of!
[ Except maybe massive dragon, but Leo never understands that. ]

She does walk outside and look up, a hand shading her eyes. She should be scared, and there's a part of her that is, but the awe over the dragon, over the creation of metal and hinges, the art of it is more overwhelming than her fear.
Of course. Not a thing. Did you build this?
She already knows the answer to that. She knows it deep inside her. Of course, Leo built this. It's like the little robot but on a far more astounding and amazing scale.

[ Leo pockets his cellphone and Festus swings around in the sky a few times, lower and lower, until he lands in the snow in the middle of the street, barely fitting between the buildings on either side. Leo is smiling down at Sophie, who is still looking very pretty, before he speaks. ]
Wanna try the winter activity of flying a dragon with me?

She takes several steps back as Leo lands Festus in the middle of the street, examining the dragon with awe, but also with an art lover's appreciation. She steps forward, one hand going to the dragon's shoulder (leg) so she can run her fingertips over the scales, admiring how the joints all fit together. She turns her attention to the boy sitting on the back of the dragon, a broad smile curving her lips.
"Are you kidding? Of course, I want to try flying a dragon with you." She gives him a skeptical look. "I'm not entirely sure how I get up there though. He doesn't have a built in staircase, does he?"
no subject
"He does now! I'd roll out the red carpet but I haven't added that feature yet." He says. "Golden staircase will have to do, Sophie Hamilton."
no subject
She laughs at that, delighted and surprised by the staircase and Leo's comment about the red carpet. "I think a golden staircase will do," she tells him as she starts up the stairs, tentatively at first then a little more confidently. "Just sit behind you?" she asks as she gets to the top of the staircase, hesitating a little. She's never ridden a dragon before.

Once she's found a comfortable position, Leo leans down to talk to Festus. "Okay boy, let's go. Try to make me look good... that'd be great!"
Festus takes off somewhat smoothly and his massive wings flap to lift them higher and higher at a pretty decent speed. The gears and hinges creak in some places where Leo needs to oil them or tweak them a bit. "Up, up and away, Sophie! What do you think??"
no subject
She smiles, hearing Leo talk to Festus.
It feels like her heart leaps in her chest and she can't catch her breath when the dragon takes off, but as he levels out and gets up to speed, Sophie relaxes, not squeezing him so hard. She looks out over the town and a little gasp escapes her.
"It's beautiful," she says in a sort of awed voice. "Leo...this is amazing."
no subject
Her reaction once they're airborne is everything he'd hoped it would be. "I aim to amaze and awe, Sophie! Festus is showing off for a pretty girl, really. He usually only saves this kind of speed for dire, world in peril, circumstances. He must miss being the hero of the story."
He beams a smile back at her over his shoulder. "And how's that for your first time on a dragon? Festus isn't just any dragon, he's a hero!"
no subject
They're flying. She's not sure how she's not supposed to be awed and amazed. "Congratulations, you've succeeded," she tells him, then removes one arm from Leo's waist to pat Festus's side gently. "I appreciate it, Festus," she says loudly.
"I wouldn't expect anything else," she teases.
no subject
"There's not much world saving that needs to go on here so far, so I'll settle for impressing you." It's mostly him teasing her right back. He really really likes impressing her, okay? "I can build you anything you want though, Sophie. Is there something you want? Building things is kind of my thing, and by kind of, I mean literally."
As they soar higher, Festus lifts his head and exhales a breath of fire. Leo smirks and shakes his head. "Okay now you're really just showing off, buddy. Dial it down." Festus snorts at that.
no subject
When he says he can build her anything, she smiles at that, her face still buried against Leo's shoulder. She tips her face up, resting her chin against his shoulder, her lips at his ear. She's got butterflies in her stomach and she doesn't think it has anything to do with flying. "A cat? Can you build me a cat the way you built Festus?"
Sophie gasps when the dragon breathes out fire. "He's amazing, Leo and so are you."
