Open | Action: When the ghost becomes a boy

It isn't so much that Noah walks through a door. After all, he's more spirit than boy, more energy than being. But somehow, when he finds himself on a near a copse of trees, he seems to have a body. He can't tell if he's cold or not - he never felt cold, after all, even when he was dead and people said he was cold.

But this isn't Cabeswater. This isn't anywhere he's been. He doesn't know where he is and he doesn't know where his friends are.

And ... well, the things he doesn't know outnumber the things he does know and he's scared (which ... probably isn't a surprise). He wrings his hands together, turning a slow circle and he moves to where he's standing on a sidewalk.

"H-hello?" he manages. Can anyone even hear him without Blue's energy? Will Ronan and the others find him? The smudgy boy looks around, wide-eyed, his faded Aglionby sweater hanging loosely on him.

He pats himself - he can't help it. "I do too," he admits, his smile a little crooked, still a little unsure.

How Noah can be real is a mystery. His bones were buried, after all. "Where should we go?" he asks. "Where are the others?"

"Monmouth is here," Blue says with a grin. It appeared shortly after Gansey's arrival. Magic seems prominent in this city and she's loving it so far. She's curious to see if Noah's solidness will last. "I have my own room."

And her own key. Which means for once, she doesn't have to knock or get Noah to sneak her in while the other boys are away. It's her favorite part of Itinere so far. Aside from the way the night sky looks over the ocean.

"Adam has a garage here. He and Ronan share an apartment. Gansey's at Monmouth with us."

At least, she's hoping that Noah will come back to Monmouth with her.

Well, if Monmouth is here, then Noah's room is here and Noah likes his room, so.

"Ronan doesn't live at Monmouth?"

That draws Noah's brows together. "Why not?" Adam living on his own makes sense, after all.

"Maybe he'll move in?" Blue hopes that'll be the case. She's used to hectic households full of people and wouldn't mind Monmouth becoming like that. Even if it means living with three or four boys. It'll be a change, certainly, but it's a change that Blue is willing to embrace. "Ronan and Adam have been here longer than Monmouth. The building only just appeared with the arrival of Gansey."

What the universe won't do to accommodate him.

So it seems.

Noah takes everything Blue says at face value. After all, there's no reason to doubt her and she knows more than he does about this place, after all. He's just glad to see friends. "I guess I'll stay at Monmouth then. If you don't mind."

Blue frowns at the addition to his first sentence. If she doesn't mind? Oh, Noah. "It's been your home longer. Why would I mind?"

"Because you and Grandy .... " Noah shrugs a little, looking down. Just because they can't kiss doesn't mean they want some other guy hanging around all the time. "You guys might want to be alone or something."

It confuses her for a moment, Noah asking if she and Gansey would prefer to be alone. She remembers admitting to him that Adam isn't her true love but she never mentioned Gansey, not in relation to that. They had agreed not to tell any of the boys. Not that there was anything to tell.

She shakes her head. "There's no reason for that. No more reason why I'd want to be alone with him than I would you, Adam, or Ronan."

Noah may have been dead, but he wasn't blind. He'd seen those nights when Gansey had left after the phone rang. Or how they just look at each other.

There's a moment of "uh-huh" in Noah's face, but he smiles at her saying that, wanting perhaps to believe it for a moment. "Okay."

She'd like to think that they've done a better job hiding their feelings than that. But Noah can be so quiet sometimes, it's hard to remember that he's in the same room. Blue studies his reaction and decides that she'll go along pretending.

"Besides," she continues, "Monmouth wouldn't be the same without you there."

It isn't like Noah can go live with Ronan and Adam. That would be uncomfortable.

So, he chooses to agree with and believe Blue. "Just stay out of Ronan's room," he advises. Even if he doesn't live here.

Very uncomfortable. Not that Blue has any idea that Ronan and Adam are anything more than friends at the moment. Still, the apartments here aren't very big. At least the one she stayed in wasn't. Three boys in such a cramped space can't possibly be a good idea.

A little sheepishly, Blue admits, "I only peered in once. I was trying to figure out which room belonged to me."

"Even before I came here, nobody went in Ronan's room," Noah explains. "I bet it's still the same here."

He likes that, actually - that nothing has changed. Since he's kind of what's changed, and the location has changed, some things staying the same is good, at least from Noah's perspective.

For Blue, the changes in her life had come when she had been let into the Raven boys’ secret world. As a result, she’s changed. It is more than just breaking her two cardinal rules. She’s a little more daring, a little more willing to take risks that otherwise sensible Blue would never consider. And sometimes? Sometimes she’s so tired of being sensible. She wants to be free to do whatever she wants. To drive anywhere without checking in. To scream her anger and worry at her mother for disappearing. To kiss Gansey.

“If you mean messy and possessing its own distinct smell, I’d say you’re right.”

If Noah had any ability at all - which he doesn't - he would make those things possible for her, he would.

Noah would give Blue the moon if he could. But he can't. He can't really do anything, except, apparently, exist.

He smiles, though, at her comment. "So ... " he asks, "What now?"

That Noah exists is gift enough to Blue. She can't imagine her life without him in it. Without any of the raven boys. Blue loves them all and she has no doubt that they love her too, each in their own way. They're all in love with each other, she and her raven boys, and Blue knows that these friendships have been more than worth waiting for. Though she has her wishes, she could never be scornful of what she does have.

"Now," she begins, linking her arm in Noah's. "We go to Monmouth like we have before. But this time, I don't have to leave."
