Mingle Event

The County Fair has come to Itinere! It just magically appeared overnight. Such fun, right? Absolutely. Here, you'll find every rickety ride you can think of from ferris wheels, water rides, pendulum rides and roller coasters to the horrifying Drop Tower ride, a reverse bungee experience and tilt-a-whirl. Pretty much if you can dream an amusement ride, it's here. Don't even think about going hungry. They fry everything at this event. And of course there are the old staples of any Fair, funnel cakes, corn dogs and shaved ice in every flavor. Careful, you just might get pulled into a massive tent to judge anything from pies to barbecue to pickles to jams. Oh, but it isn't all food. You might get pulled into a tent to judge livestock. Sheep, cattle, pigs and llamas are the name of the game. Who has the best of the best? Did anyone say horse races? Feel free to bet at the makeshift track where horses will be racing all day! The promenade has several live bands cycling through on and off all day. Grab someone and dance before you, yourself get pulled into a two-step.

Everything isn't entirely on the up and up though. Did that sheep just whisper to you? What is it telling you to do? Is that paint on that clowns face or is that just his face? No smile should be naturally that large. In the hall of mirrors, you might not see yourself looking back at you. One of the mirrors might even be empty. Anyone who goes through the tunnel of love will feel compelled to kiss no matter who they're with. The acrobats do death defying acts that seem far too unreal. And the animals in their cages, the lions and the panthers... they look at you with a sentient, knowing eye that would give anyone the heebie-jeebies. The music in the promenade might force you to dance, with or without a partner. The fortune tellers know far too much about you and your life past, present and future.

But hey! It's a Fair! Everyone loves a Fair, don't they? Have fun while the fun lasts!

ooc: This is a very stereotypical fair. Feel free to create your own adventures, good or bad. Want to play with some of the not quite right stuff in the Fair? Have at it! Basically, create your own muses storyline here, let your imagination run wild, mingle, and have fun! Want to plot with others? Comment to THIS post!

"Hayley and Marissa." He still watches the baby for a bit, a small smile playing on his lips. It's amazing to him. Children have always been a symbol of hope to him. He'd always felt a certain affinity to them. Maybe because he wished so badly for them to have the full childhood that had been stripped away from him at such a young age. If ever there was a reason that Derek did what he did back in his world, it was that. To make the world a better place for kids like Marissa.

Finally, he looks up at Hayley and grins. "You tellin' me you put back two whole funnel cakes without battin' an eye and you look as good as you look?" A compliment, yes. A little flirtation, yes. And maybe even some respect in there.

"Yep, we're from a city called New Orleans. How about you?" She focuses back on Derek as she asks the question.

A small laugh escapes her before she replies to that comment. "Now you make me wish I had a fun sounding reason, like being some badass who runs the equivalent of at least one marathon a day and eats a ton of sugar and calories to balance it out." She returns the grin. "But no, it's just being able to handle a lot of food and not getting sick or whatever else is I guess what you could call one of the perks of my species." As a werewolf, she'd had a high enough metabolism that she could eat all day and not suffer too many consequences, but as she is now, a werewolf-vampire hybrid, she doesn't really need to eat food. Her body can still digest food -- and at the fast levels it had when she was just a werewolf -- as long as she has a supply of blood, which serves as her main source of nutrition now.

"Ahhhh you got all that good food down there. I see. I see." Derek answers with a grin and a nod. He'd been down to New Orleans a few times. Mostly for work. A few times for play.

"I'm from the DC area. Born and raised in Chicago though." Chicago had its own claims to fame. Most notably, Oprah. But it wasn't quite the fun hot spot that New Orleans was. "And hey I grew up with two sisters who could put back some food. Don't get people who pick at salads." He's only partly joking. Because deep down at its core, the comment is true.

"How long have you been in Itinere?"
louisianawolf: made by me (Hayley; being weird)

"That's basically the only thing I miss about it. All the food I can't recreate to save my life." She's good at eating food, but cooking food is a whole different story.

"Both good places, at least from what I hear of them. Did you like one better than the other?" Her travels to locate her family had taken her to a lot of cities, but not everywhere. "Neither do I. I'm not sure I'd trust anyone who thinks an acceptable lunch is half of a granola bar and nothing else." She returns with her own sort-of-joking-but-mostly-true comment.

"Six months. So, a while but not a long while." Long enough to determine that it's easier to be in than New Orleans. "And yourself?"

"I get that. There was this place on the corner near where I grew up. It was tiny. Looked like a shack from the outside. So bad that if you didn't know what was there, you wouldn't go in. But they made the best greasy burger and fries there." Derek says with a grin. "Anytime I'm in the neighborhood I've gotta stop there to get my fix. Can't find anywhere that compares and not for lack of tryin'."

Derek had to consider his answer to that question about which he liked best for a moment before he could bring himself to answer. "Chicago's got a lot of sentimental value in it. But not all my memories there are good ones. I like DC better. Even though it would make my mama happy for be to be home more often than I am."

Six months and he had never seen her? He knows he'd remember that face if he had seen her. "Uhh seven or eight. I'm starting to lose track. Can't believe we haven't met until now."
