[ jan-di had been present in the city for a little over a week, and she's already frustrated with the way things operate. objects that appear seemingly out of nowhere, simply because she wants them (or mostly, because she needs them, like the toothbrush near the bathroom sink when she wished she could brush her teeth, or the extra rolls of toilet paper that appeared when she lamented about being on her last roll) remind her all too much of F4 — mostly of gu jun-pyo.
he had a nasty habit of giving her things she wanted to earn money for and buy herself, showering her with a sort of charity she was unwilling to accept. even during the brief period when she was staying in his house after his mother saw to demolishing her building, she refused to do so for free. jun-pyo might've found it mostly amusing, but she had been dead serious about earning her keep, just as she was now. ]
I want a job. Any kind of job. In the past, I've worked as a maid in a very wealthy household, delivered papers and milk, and was waitressing at a porridge restaurant. I also have experience in dry cleaning. My parents used to own their own dry cleaning service before...
[ she trails off, not wanting to recant the lengths jun-pyo's mother went to keep them apart. jan-di laughs it off as if it's nothing. ]
—before they didn't! Before they decided fishing was a much more profitable market.
[ she smiles and nods, and it's obvious she's trying to convince herself of this more than she is anyone viewing this feed. she's not the best liar. ]
If you have something available, I would really like to try for it. [ another smile, and a quick bow of her head. ] Thank you!
[ wave wave!jan-di: out ]

[ She leans in closer to the screen as if she were about to be the biggest conspirator ever. ] So how do you feel about books?

Books? [ she makes a face, but it quickly disappears and she perks up visibly. ] I can do books! What kind of books? Textbooks?
[ this is the girl who sold food in traffic. a job's a job and she'll do whatever job she can take. ]

Every kind of book. My... friend Myrnin and I run a book shop in town called Subtext. It's pretty impressive. And... kind of magical. [ Magical like Itinere is magical in general. The wants and desires of the populace suddenly appearing as if the entire city is sentient. ]
Pretty much, it has a million books. But if you think of a book you want that isn't there? It appears like magic.

[ what an interesting name for you shop. jan-di wonders... but ah! the girl who was bold enough to take on F4 isn't bold enough to ask such a question. ]
Ma- Magic? As in [ she waves her hand about like she's hold a wand and casting a spell ] magic?
[ jan-di's well aware of how this place operates. it was hard to believe at first, but as frustrating as having things appear at her behest (even when she doesn't want them to), it's something she's gotten used to. but this sounds like there's a magic that has nothing to do with the magic of this place. ]
oh wow, I must have been drunk when I wrote that tag up there. sorry!
That doesn't mean I'm not still trying to find a logical explanation for all of it. [ Logic is nowhere to be seen just yet. ]
But yeah... Subtext is a good place to work if you like books. I don't think Myrnin or I would mind the company.
no worries! i was able to make sense of it. :)
[ she tries to think of other things there were to do at a book store other than selling books, but the truth is that she's never paid attention to what goes on in one. it couldn't be too hard, right? and it wasn't like she wasn't up to the challenge. if there was one thing jan-di excelled at, it was finding a way to succeed in spite of everything that said she would fail. ]

So I didn't catch your name.
