I’ve asked around a little and it doesn’t seem like there’s any particular authority here for businesses and the like. It also doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of crime here. Would anyone find a police station that specialized in ‘weird’ helpful here? We’d handle regular sorts of crimes as well, but also police escorts, security and that sort of thing.
[action]
After shooting her text out to the entire network, Audrey decides to do her own reconnaissance regarding a police station. She’s heard about the wish magic; she knows that’s how Duke got his boat here. She’s tested it on small things and now has her gun here along with a few other random things. If this place would find some use in a police station, she needs to know where she wants to place the police station; somewhere central to the city she thinks. With that in mind, she’s prowling the streets, gathering her own information about general crime in the city and scouting locations. Feel free to come interrupt her, ask what she’s doing or just give her your opinion on crime and a police station in Itinere.

Instead, he smiles at her and stands up. "So, what kind of weird have you seen here to help people with aside from the obvious... this entire place? Also, wanna go for coffee?"

Of course, he is. Living on the boat had taken a little bit of getting used to for Audrey, but once she had it was a lot like living at the Gull. Duke was a good house mate (boat mate?) and she's grateful that he let her move in with him when she showed up out of nowhere. She's starting to settle here and she really doesn't mind the place at all (outside of missing Nathan) but Audrey isn't good at relaxing. She needs to be doing something and she can't imagine doing anything except police work. Maybe no one here needs help, but it would give her something to do every day and be there on the outside chance that someone did need help. She appreciates the minimal eye rolling. He's the best bestie ever.
"I haven't," she admits, sounding almost disappointed, "but I've heard there were monsters a couple of months ago and someone said this place was in ruins even before that. I thought maybe if I established something, I could be there to help out next time it's necessary." And she's going batty not working. As for Duke's offer. "Coffee sounds perfect," she admits with a grateful smile.

"Monsters? What kind of monsters?" Although strangely, none of that seems too far fetched. Duke and Audrey have spent years fighting monsters and seeing Haven destroyed bit by bit.
Duke grabs a coat and slips on some actual hiking boots since there's snow outside. He pulls on a wool cap and a scarf and they're off. He would actually kind of hate it if they've shown up to yet another place that's inevitably doomed. Duke has already sacrificed himself to save one. He doesn't want to have to do that again. It was traumatic enough the first time. "I've been doing a little exploring and I think I've found the best coffee shop in town... which also happens to have baked goods."

"From what I hear, pretty much anything you can imagine, but not everyone saw the same monsters so you have to wonder if they were individual to the person seeing the monsters." Which sounds so much like something that Haven would experience that Audrey feels a little more at home here. That probably says something deep and psychological about her.
Yeah, Audrey really hopes that this place isn't doomed regardless of whether they ever get to go back to Haven or not. She slips her arm through Duke's as they walk. She would rather he not have to sacrifice herself either. She's not to that point (Thank God) but she's very glad to see Duke here alive and well. She smiles at his commentary. "You are very good at doing that. Well, show me. I'll have to judge for myself."

"Like with the nightmares. When people saw their biggest fears come true - it was different for each one." What was that girl's name? Jackie. But they had rid her of that Trouble so that she could live a good life so it couldn't be her. But maybe something similar. Duke doesn't like the idea that the Troubles have followed them here.
As always, he covers his discomfort up with a smile. "It's actually not where you'd think. You'll be surprised. I think you've grown to like surprises though."
no subject
"Yeah. Just like that, but no one has mentioned anyone being responsible for this. No one really knows how it was resolved from what I can gather. That's part of what I want to find out." Audrey doesn't like the idea of the troubles following them here either for a lot of reasons.
"I like some surprises. I usually like your surprises," she qualifies. She likes Duke's surprises because she trusts him.

"That's one thing that's always true though - there's always a man behind the curtain pulling the strings or twisting the knobs... or whatever." A Wizard of Oz reference. Duke is full of surprises. "So we'll figure it out. Together. Which so far looks like it's gonna be way easier than anything ever has been before." Understatement of the millennium.

Audrey frowns, bobs her head back and forth, a little sort of facial shrug. He is full of surprises, and yet, somehow she's not surprised he's seen the Wizard of Oz. Audrey knows Duke is secretly a softie. His words make her smile, a radiant, genuine smile. "That'll be a first for us." She leans up to press a kiss to Duke's cheek then goes back off her toes to continue walking with him to the coffee shop.
Something being easy to figure out.

The coffee shop in question isn't actually a coffee shop. He'd told her she would be surprised and she will be, he thinks. It took a lot of coffee and a ton of jitters to find the best place. So when he pauses at the bookstore, Subtext, and pulls the door open, he's watching her face to see her surprise. Inside the aroma of books, tea and coffee fill the air. Duke takes her hand and leads her over to the small coffee bar and starts pouring coffee into two to-go cups, one for the both of them.
"Surprised?" He asks.

Audrey is persistent when she wants to be and at arms length was not an acceptable thing for her and Duke. He's her best friend now and she honestly doesn't know what she'd do without him. She loves him, and most people don't realize that, or if they do, they can't figure it out. She's not sure how it works between them, she just knows it does. That's enough.
There's definitely surprise there, and the good kind. Her lips curve in a smile as he opens the door. She steps over the threshold, looking about as she does then inhales deeply. "Mmmm yeah, but in the best way." She looks over to the little sitting area with the couches and fireplace. "Can we stay and drink it here?"

Hi, Derek. I'm Audrey Parker. I actually used to work for the FBI a few years ago. I resigned and started working for the PD of a small town in Maine. That's what I'm finding about the crime, but I've also heard that there are situations in which people could use a hand like the monsters a couple of months ago. I guess what I'm trying to do is just find out what might be needed and fill that void. I appreciate the offer. When I get something more solid I will definitely take you up on that. It will probably end up being very occasional and situational, but I think it'll be good to have a plan in place for when things do go wonky.
What did you do with the FBI? And how are you handling the slower pace of things here?

I worked for the Behavioral Analysis Unit - Supervisory Special Agent Morgan. [ Yeah, he was a high-ranked agent and having nothing to do here is not easy. ] The BAU focuses on serial profiling; abductions, arsens, rapes and murders. It's hard because you're used to feeling useful and putting bad guys away, and here there's none of that. We fought the monsters that entered the city, that's about it.
What did you do for the FBI?

[ That's good to know that it might be recurring. As for the city rebuilding itself, that's very Haven-ish as well. ]
Space? I would have never have guessed. I've heard pocket dimension theories. Has anyone considered that maybe this is a space ship of sorts?
[ Yeah, she's saying that, but considering everything she's seen and heard, she doesn't think it's too outlandish, at least not more so than anything else. ]
I should definitely be calling you Sir. I was just a low level agent. I'd only been with them for a few years when I decided to make the move to Haven PD.

I'm not sure what kind of weird that I'm going to encounter here, but back in Haven we dealt with everything from being trapped in a literal snow globe, to people who could kill with one touch to someone who was having children to harvest organs for themselves. Lots of different kinds of weird. Some of the things were very innocent, people with troubles they didn't know how to control to others that were more malicious. I don't mind teaching if you're interested in learning. I feel like the need for any sort of law enforcement will be more situational and occasional than day to day.

I don't mind at all. I bet you'll pick up on it quickly. I'll let you know when I have something that resembles a plan
