Open | And when that sun goes down, hope you raise your cup

[Open]

Peter has been here in Itinere longer than he cares to count. Despite the fact that he misses his aunt and his city, he's settling in here, but he doesn't have much of a routine. He knows he probably needs one. He does spend a lot of the time at the bookstore, glad that they seem to have a good selection of science books. He's also found the lab above the bookstore (and it's amazingly well equipped, also a little scary). Today, he spends a chunk of his morning in the bookstore then wanders down the street for some pizza.

[Closed to Dani]

He spends a chunk of his afternoon working on setting things up for his date with Dani. He's not sure if it's an official first date or not since they've done things together before. However, it is the first date since they've kissed at the fair so he wants to make it something special.

He actually agonizes a little over what to wear, uncertain what first date protocol is (and again, is this a first date or not?), but eventually goes with a pair of jeans and a tee shirt not unlike what he wears most of the time. He tries to get his hair to behave (and is only moderately successful). At least shaving doesn't go wrong. He supposes he'll count it as a win.

When he knocks on Dani's door, he's a bundle of nerves, unable to stand still (which is also fairly normal for him). He shoves his hands in his pockets and bounces on the balls of his feet while he waits for her to answer her door.

Lydia smiles warmly at him when he seems amenable to still talking about science with her in spite of the fact that she'd misinterpreted the tone of the rest of their conversation. It isn't often that Lydia does that and she wonders if it's just been so long since she's been in a relationship that she's lost her touch. She's going to have to get on that again. This isn't becoming, at all.

"Perfect," she says. "I'll keep you posted on my progress, then. If you ever feel inclined toward biochemistry, I'm your girl," she says with a little wink. Then, Lydia holds up the book she's chosen. "I'm gonna go get started, I think. It was really nice to meet you, Peter," she says sincerely. She's still a little bummed that he's spoken for. He isn't married, though, so she's not going to give up entirely, not yet. Now he's kind of a challenge. A part of her that Lydia isn't terribly proud of is piqued with interest with that in mind.

If she sticks around too much longer, she's bound to make things more awkward than they have any right to be at this juncture by pushing, because that's just the kind of person Lydia is and something tells her that a guy like Peter wouldn't be able to take it without hard feelings, which is something she's not willing to allow herself to create between them. Not when he's a science guy and the world doesn't have enough of them for her to talk to as it is. "I'll see you around," she adds before giving him a little wave and starting off.
