[ prim is stocking shelves today, but she takes some time out to remind people of something that has probably been forgotten over time, especially with the last few months. ]
My name is Prim Everdeen. Things have been weird here lately but in light of that, I wanted to let everyone know that there's an Apothecary here in Itinere. I'm running it. I thought it would be a good idea to have a place for people to go for a simple herbal remedy or in case they don't want to go to the hospital. [ or don't trust it. she doesn't and she knows katniss probably doesn't, either. ] I'm here every day, but in case I'm not, you can leave me a message here and I'll get back to you.

With that done, Prim spends most of the day in the Apothecary, stocking shelves and making sure she knows what's what. She's always happy to have visitors and will helpfully explain anything or just chat with everyone who walks in. After she closes up shop for the day, she makes her way to the bookstore, where she pokes her head in to see if she can find more books on herbal remedies and doctor things she doesn't already know. "Hello?" she calls, hoping that someone is inside.

He's been back in Itinere for a day now, trying to get resettled. He knows he needs a doctor though. While he was home, some stuff happened, not too long before he came here. He isn't sure he completely trusts the hospital here. So he heads to Prim's apothecary.
The man who enters the place is older than Prim would remember him, maybe a bit harder around the edges too. He has some battle wounds from his recent abduction back home. There's bruising around his neck and scabbing around his wrists where he had been restrained.
"Hey, kiddo." He says, voice still scratchy from almost being choked to death. "Looks like you finally got this place up and running."

Until she sees the differences. Concern laces her features and she moves forward so she can inspect him.
"Yeah, it finally worked," she agrees. "I've got more here than I ever thought I would. I'm glad to see you, but... are you okay?"
no subject
"Uhm..." He draws a deep breath, trying to decide exactly what he's asking for. There is so much wrong with him right now. "I need something for a wound that hasn't healed yet. And maybe... I haven't been able to sleep. You have somethin' to help a guy sleep? But I don't want anything that takes... I want to still be in control of me. No heavy drugs. Just... help. Sleeping."
no subject
That's the easy part. The harder trick is what comes after she gets that ready and placed into a jar for storage.
"For sleep... I can recommend a few things." She's got some knowledge already from her life in District 12, but she's also been researching since she got here. "Lavender to put in your pillow case or under your pillow. The smell is said to help people relax and sleep better. Valerian you can crush up and infuse with hot water like tea. That'll help, too. And you can do the same with chamomile." She pulls all of these down and starts measuring them out in enough doses that he should be good for a week at a time with each.

The sleeping is going to be the more difficult part. He knows this. His mind is not in a good place and that's a lot of what's been keeping him awake. How do you fix those dark places where there is no light? He doesn't want to be drugged. He wants to stay sharp and able to wake up immediately should he need to.
As he listens to her though, he pulls his shirt off to reveal old bandages on his chest and abdomen. They probably need clean bandages. He peels away a long strip down the center of his chest where the skin has been eaten through with some chemical almost to the bone. The skin around the wound is burned away. It's scabbed over, having had a week to heal so far. Derek still winces as fresh air hits the wound. Then under the bandage at his side on his abdomen is a knife wound that cut in deep. There are bruises around his neck, at his back and around his wrists.
"But I'll still be able to wake up, right? Nothin' too heavy." He asks of the sleep aides.

As she works, she tries to focus on what he's saying to her. "It's not morphling; it's natural remedies. They won't knock you out so you can't wake up. They just help your body in its natural state."
no subject
He lets her put the salve on his wounds. Natural remedies are good, less chance to take any of his control away. He needs that control right now.
"What's morphling?" He asks.
no subject
So she would never give it to Derek, even if it were the last thing available. He clearly doesn't want to take that risk.
As she finally finishes rewrapping his wounds, she steps back and gives a slight nod. "There. That should help. You should probably change them every few days to make sure nothing's getting caught in your wounds." No infections, please. Prim does not want to deal with that.
no subject
"Yeah, I think I'll steer clear of that." He says.
He's trying really hard not to wince as she dresses his wounds. But sometimes it really hurts and he fails. When she's done, he's glad for that. "I'll keep an eye on it."
His muscles ache as he pulls his shirt back on. "You and your sister doin' alright?" He just remembered that Prim has an older sister. His memories of Itinere seem to be coming back in small increments instead of in one big swoop.
no subject
"We're okay," she answers slowly. "It's been tough since the sky fell. I think that scared both of us, but I was glad I had you to help. I know Katniss appreciated your help, too. You and Venus." Katniss would not have managed nearly as well without someone to look after Prim. "She's back to hunting and I'm here. So... we're okay. How are you guys? Before all this."

He looks to Prim finally. "Have you something that might help strengthen the ley lines here? I know rosemary is for clarity and luck, but I'm not sure what to use for strength."
no subject
When he asks his next question, her interest turns to confusion and her brow creases. "Ley lines? I'm not sure what you mean." That's a term she doesn't remember. "What kind of strength are you looking for? Physical strength? Fortitude? Spiritual?"
no subject
"Ley lines are alignments of places of significance in the geography or culture of an area, often including man-made structures. They are in the older sense, ancient, straight trackways in the British landscape. Many people believe they hold spiritual and mystical significance. They're not only British though. They span the world. I've been to see several in the United Kingdom as well as a few in America. I think they're all connected and perhaps they're connected here as well," he explains, trying to keep it as simple as possible. "Spiritual for the ley lines. Fortitude for someone that will be working on them. "
no subject
"Amethyst gemstones are supposed to help with spirituality." Not exactly herbs and medicine, but along a similar healing line. It's something she's read since coming here. "St. John's Wort eases your mind. That might help. Sage helps the mind and Holy Basil might help your overall body." Pulling all of these off the shelves, she makes her way back to the counter, to lay it all out so he can choose. "You can try it all if you want and let me know what works or doesn't."
no subject
He nods a little, following her to the counter. He picks out some of everything she lays out. "I'll take all of that. Is there a way to combine it all? Make it portable or wearable. Perhaps a necklace or a bag of some sort?"
no subject
"We can use the small ones for individual wrapping and then the larger ones to hold some or all. And if you need more bags or supplies, you can always come back."
no subject
He nods a little at her idea. "Indeed. That sounds like an excellent plan."
no subject
There are a lot of options, really.
With the supplies separated, she hands them over with a smile. "Here you go. Be sure to come back if you need anything else." She'll be here
until she's not.
