Closed to Raven Kids

Who: Raven kids
When: The entire month of July
Where: Mostly the Barns, but I'm okay with it being used for anywhere in town
Warnings: Let's just make it R for everyone's sake. It might have everything in it.

With the lights out, the month of July takes the shape of some sort of weird slumber party. During the day everyone goes about their business. Adam works, Gansey researches, Ronan bugs the ever living crap out of Adam. Noah and Blue do whatever Noah and Blue do. Ronan suspects they’re still adjusting to this place. He knows it’s got to be a big adjustment for Noah. It’s probably not an easy one for Blue either who’s more accustomed to being around the craziness of 300 Fox Way rather than the craziness of Monmouth.

He knows it’ll be awkward at first, but when the electricity fails Ronan suggests that everyone stay out at The Barns. There’s plenty of room and several things that don’t use electricity to work like toasters and one shower that never runs out of hot water. Ronan feels better having the people he cares about under one roof, particularly when they’re not sure what the hell else is going to happen. Gansey agrees readily enough, always happy to have all of his people close by.

While The Barns allow everyone the space they need so that no one is piled up on top of each other, it is lacking in bedrooms. There’s the bedroom that Niall and Aurora shared, Matthew’s bedroom, Ronan’s bedroom and Declan’s bedroom (they can draw straws for that one). Ronan didn’t give anyone (including Adam) a vote when he claimed his room for he and Adam. He told the others they could sleep wherever the hell they liked. The couch in the den was pretty damn comfortable.

The Barns are also cluttered with dream things. The house, for the most part, contains the bits and pieces that function properly. Aurora had seen to that. However, there’s an entire barn full of frustration dreams for everyone to explore. The animals still lie sleeping where they’d been when Niall had died. For the most part, Ronan doesn’t mind his friends picking through the things and exploring. Niall’s office in one of the barns is locked and it’ll stay that way. He’d prefer that no one touch the mask on the wall that he’d had that awful dream, but it’s really only off limits to Adam (who knows that by now).

Explore, settle in. Ronan really is happy to have everyone here, to be able to share this with everyone.

[You’ve all read the book. Feel free to make shit up about the Barns. If you’ve got questions, ask and I’ll do what I can to answer them. Treat this as a month long mingle. Play with it and have fun. Adam’s birthday thread down below]

The problem with doing any of those things, as Blue sees it, is that there's still the risk of a kiss hidden within. One slip of a thought, one careless action and Blue might kill her true love. It's quite a lot of weight to put on a relationship that has yet to even begin but Blue had seen him on the corpse road. If Blue Sargent ever kisses her true love, he'll die. The logic isn't all that hard to follow. As much as she's tried to fight the burgeoning emotions, they're there. Hand holding might be safe, but waking up together in the morning?

Even if Itinere works on wishes, she's not certain if wishes trump curses. Or if it's really worth finding out just for a kiss.

But she wants it. She wants that kiss so very much. She wants everything that Gansey wants and more. For now, she allows herself this. Safe in a bedroom that is not hers, listening to his voice from the safety of a phone. Thrilling at this secret contact.

"I try not to make a habit," she answers, giddiness also expressed in her voice. "But I've been told it's the best time of night to get your point across."

It is a good deal of weight to put on a relationship, even an established one. Of course, it would give Gansey another quest. He'd be infinitely curious as to whether a kiss could kill him here in this place where ghosts become real boys. Gansey has only tried to fight them in an effort to maintain a balance between the five of them that sometimes seems more precarious than solid. He would have to remind himself every moment that he could not kiss her, but he thinks that it would be worth it.

Perhaps one of them ought to ask. The powers that be here seem chatty enough.

For now, this will do. It's not enough, but then Gansey is beginning to suspect that Blue is one of those fascinating, rare things that one cannot ever truly get enough of. If that's the case, he supposes they're just as well off with these secret, quiet conversations, but it hardly seems to hold weight against an almost kiss.

"As is wise. Wouldn't want to be the girl that cried wolf," he warns teasingly, luxuriating in the sound of her voice, in this time that seems to be theirs alone. He can lie here in the dark and pretend that they can have everything they want, that this middle-of-the-night conversation isn't the place their relationship begins and ends. "Well I'm certainly considering your point terribly seriously despite the fact that I am not Congress."

Not that he knows what her point is, but he hardly thinks that matters right now.

That is not a quest that they'll ever be undertaking. Blue is forever grateful that Noah's alive again here in Itinere. But they will not be taking a chance that those who die here don't get to come back as real boys again. They will not be risking Gansey's health and well-being for a kiss.

Even if she really wants to know what that kiss would feel like. What Gansey would taste like. She'd like to know all of that but she will not take that chance. Gansey's life is too precious to her.

"And I'm too sensible for that," Blue agrees, liking that teasing note in his voice. It's so boyish and sweet and she thinks that she'd much rather be talking to him in the same room right now, curled up in his arms rather than the blanket. "Though apparently I need to learn not to misdial so frequently. I apologize for any inconveniences I might have caused."

Of course it's not, but it is a question that Gansey might pose to the powers that be sometime. He's curious! That's all yeah right. He thinks perhaps it would be worth the risk.

These things circle through his mind on those nights when he can't sleep. What would it be like kissing Blue Sargent? He can only imagine and his imagination is quite good, but he believes that imagination would pale next to reality. it would be a very good kiss.

"Of course you are. I'm sure Congress appreciates a sensible girl," he teases her in return. He would much rather have her in the same room as well though and he's already pondering how he might suggest such a thing. "You should be terribly apologetic," he says, clearly teasing her. "I might need to upbraid you in person as it's not nearly as effective on the phone."

A question has little harm attached to it. But taking action without doing any research beforehand is dangerous. And it's completely unnecessary. Blue wants nothing more than to kiss him, too. They'll just have to be content with their imaginations for now.

At least they both imagine that the kiss would be amazing. Not worth the risk (nothing is ever worth his life) but better than any other kiss that they've had.

"That Congress does," she agrees and then hesitates. Words are easily words. She's never tried to read much into them before. But rather than remind Gansey to use English (upbraid? really?), she chews on her lower lip and considers her own reply. Quietly, "Not nearly effective at all."

It's fortunate for both of them that research is something Gansey enjoys. He relishes research and this is an excellent topic to occupy himself with. For now, his imagination will do, but only for now.

Yes. There's at least that.

Reminding Gansey to use English won't do much good, but she's welcome to try. He holds his breath while he waits for her to answer, exhaling with a sort of chuckle when she finally does. "In that case, perhaps I should meet you somewhere. I hate to be ineffective. Fancy a walk while you're being scolded or do you prefer somewhere more stationary like the porch swing?"

It is fortunate. She refuses to be responsible for his death. If she kisses her true love, he'll die. As strong as the temptation is to kiss him, she'll pass. There are two reasons why a non-psychic will see a spirit on St. Mark's Eve. She'd so much rather it be because he's her true love instead of taking any responsibility in his death. Research first.

She's not sure what the better option is. What's safer. Walking or sitting? The problem is that she can see kissing him in either scenario. She wants to kiss him in either situation. This is why it's safer to call him instead of see him in person. Blue smiles sadly against the phone. "The porch swing sounds nice. I don't get to sit on too many of those."

Perhaps Gansey is doomed to die within the year whether Blue kisses him or not? That's not necessarily an avenue he wants to explore. He would rather be her true love as well. Research first. It'll make the pay off for the research so much better.

He's trying not to think about kissing, which is actually quite difficult. There's something very intimate about the dark and her voice in his ear. "The porch swing it is then. I'll meet you there. Perhaps you should stay on the line and make certain I find my way?" He sits up in bed, rustling about for a pair of sweatpants to pull on and a tee shirt.
