[ In Leo's opinion, having a sense of humor about the dark stuff is the only way to go. Leo has a lot of dark stuff in his past and if he let it, it could bog him down pretty heavily. He can't afford to let it. On the plus side, this makes Leo a 'glass half full' kind of person, which is better than the alternative. On the minus side, when Leo does finally let himself think about all the bad stuff, he gets pretty down and dark.
Death is pretty serious business that Leo is well acquainted with, not for the logical reasons, like he's a son of Hades, which he isn't. He's well acquainted with it because he died. He didn't even die suddenly, nope. It was a long lead-up, knowing what he was going to do well ahead of time. He had plenty of time to think about it, to torture himself over it, to not tell his friends his plan so that they couldn't talk him out of it. Sudden definitely would have been better, he thinks.
He's glad that Percy doesn't seem to mind talking about it. Because the whole resurrection thing? It needs to be discussed. There's always a price that comes with that, he thinks. It's the order of the universe at large. They may not know what the price is yet, but it'll show itself eventually. ]
So death is broken, so to speak. It makes me wonder if something is broken that needs fixed. [ He is forever Hephaestus's son, wanting to fix things even to his own detriment. ] I probably shouldn't try to fix it. [ He hesitates, looking at Percy. ] Right?
